Tiare Kirkland

Author/Creator of Out Hiking

Hi, I’m Tiare (Tee-Are-Ay) Kirkland or you can just call me T for short. I started Out Hiking to share my first-hand experiences of the wondrous beauty that I have been so fortunate to encounter while exploring, and to provide other adventure-seekers with helpful information about the hikes/areas I’ve explored.

A little about me: I live in a small mountain town at the base of the Eastern Sierra which means the Sierra Nevada mountains are basically my backyard! You will see plenty of the Sierra Nevada mountains along with the many other iconic views in the close by Yosemite National Park and National Forests found along the mountain range. You’ll likely see other National Parks here and there as well.

Mammoth Lakes is where I call home. Here, I hike during my free time to discover some of the most incredible sights that nature has to offer all within minutes of my home.

My obsession with exploring mountains and forests is something innate. While I did grow up in Central California where it’s rather flat, my family would escape the sizzling summer heat (typically above 100 degrees) camping along the Central Coast or among the Giant Sequoias – both just a few hours away. Camping provided me the ideal playground: I explored, hiked, climbed, and never got tired of the scenery.

I moved to Mammoth Lakes after earning a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fresno in 2017. I’ve found a work life balance that fits me by working for the Forest Service in the summers and in restaurants for the winters. This has allowed for me to have a flexible schedule to get plenty of trail time in and still be able to travel in the shoulder seasons (Spring/Fall).

I hope you enjoy what I’ve created for you! You may have never hiked or perhaps hit the trails on a regular basis, either way there is something here for you: an adventure wonderland.
