The Start of Out Hiking

hi I’m tiare

My name isn’t the easiest to pronounce so you can just call me ‘T’ :)

My story doesn’t start with extravagant travels as a child, instead it started with the small, but meaningful adventures. I grew up in Central California where the summers weren’t really ideal for adventures, because the average temperature lingered around 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Instead summers were for escaping that heat to either the Giant Sequoias or the Central Coast with my family. Both not too far, and both I considered to be my favorite playgrounds. Beach trips meant hopping from rock to rock exploring the tide pools when the tide was low and not being afraid to touch the slimy, yet neat underwater creatures that lived in tide pools. Mountain trips meant hiking through some of the world’s biggest trees reminding me just how small I am in this big, exquisite world.

Fast forward to my college years, I started studying at California State University of Fresno in the Fall of 2014 and working part-time as a server. While that was a full schedule, I made sure to spend any extra time in the mountains. Yosemite National Park was a 2-hour drive from my home and I was there at least once every two weeks. It felt like Yosemite had became my “playground” just the way the Central Coast and the Sequoias had been for me as a child. I became familiar with all the hidden away spots and hiked all the trails (day-hikes) in Yosemite Valley & Tioga Pass within 2 summers. It felt like home.

I added more fuel to the fire when I embarked on a 5-week solo road trip to 7 US National Parks and 7 Canadian National Parks in the summer of 2017. I had dipped my toes into just a small fraction of the beautiful places out there and I knew I wanted to experience as much of it as I could. My love and eagerness for new experiences in exciting places had became apart of who I was at that point.

Once I graduated college in the Fall of 2017, I moved to the other side of Yosemite National Park, to a small ski town - Mammoth Lakes, California. I didn’t really realize how much there was to do in these mountains until I moved here. Hiking, dirt biking, skiing, fishing, snowshoeing, ice skating, rock climbing… just to name a few things to do around here, I know it’s not much. I was no longer 2 hours from my playground… I now live in my playground. So now here I am, present time, with a plethora of adventures just waiting to be had. That’s where Out Hiking starts. I hope you enjoy following along in this exciting, new chapter of my life.

p.s. the name Out Hiking actually started with my license plate. I knew I wanted a black license plate and figured I could come up with something creative enough to put on it. I found the available name of ‘OUT HKNG’ and the idea of the name Out Hiking was born. So if you see a Subaru at a trailhead rocking an ‘OUT HKNG’ plate, that’s me!

What to expect from Out Hiking

Blog - I will be writing up trip reports on all adventures which can range from day hikes, road trips, travel guides, backpacking trips and more to help inspire those who need help finding their next adventure. I’ll also be writing up on general hiking/outdoor topics that could be helpful to my fellow adventurers.

Captures - This will house two separate pages: photography and videography.

Photography - I will be creating a page to house some of my favorite photos taken during my outdoor adventures. I’m fortunate enough to have some the most beautiful trails in my backyard with endless views at my disposal - so I start taking pictures of them. I hope you find the views just as amazing! If you see one you really like and would like a print of it, don’t hesitate to ask!

Videography - I also really enjoy the creative process of creating video edits with the shots I’ve taken along the trails and beautiful destinations, which will be housed on this page as well - follow along on my Youtube Channel to keep up to date on my latest videos.

About - I wrote a brief little summary about me, just the basics so you can know a little more about the face behind Out Hiking.

This website will evolve as I learn and will likely have more pages with more resources as I learn more!
